Anti-wrinkle injections can help us fight against ageing, and there’s nothing wrong with that. Something that is frequently on our minds is ageing. It’s a perfectly normal thing to think about, especially as we get older.
At Rejuvenation Rooms, we like to look at ageing for what it is – something beautifully natural. Who doesn’t want to grow old with grace and elegance? That being said, although ageing is natural, it can take its toll on our wellbeing.
Suddenly, we may not like what we see in the mirror. Sagging skin, dull complexions or the appearance of wrinkles can affect our self confidence and wellbeing. Though, to many of our client’s delight, our Norfolk aesthetics clinic offers ample pro-ageing treatments to help ward off the signs of ageing.
And today, we want to focus on one treatment in particular – anti-wrinkle injections (also known as Botulinum Toxin or Botox).
Anti-wrinkle injections are a direct answer for non-surgical wrinkle solutions. We know what you’re thinking, the name of this treatment really gives it away, doesn’t it?
In scientific terms, Botulinum Toxin is a neurotoxic protein produced by bacterium clostridium botulinum.
With the appearance of wrinkles – as a result of ageing or repeated facial movements – someone may turn to injecting Botox directly into targeted muscles to reduce the appearance of these wrinkles and fine lines.
Anti-wrinkle injections also work well when used as a preventative measure. So even if you don’t think your wrinkles are prominent enough to warrant treatment, the use of these injectables will help reduce the future appearance of wrinkles.
Anti-wrinkle injections work by acting as a neuromodulator by inhibiting acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction. What this means is that Botox will temporarily block the signal from the nerve to the muscle, which stops the muscles from contracting. This reduction in muscle movement means that facial wrinkles can be softened, reduced or removed.
These fine lines that form on the face are often the result of the ageing process. Simply because, as we age, our levels of collagen, elastin and moisture begin to deplete. This isn’t helped by the natural breakdown of supportive fatty tissue in our skin.
As the ageing process continues, these fine lines begin to turn into wrinkles. And with repeated facial movements, such as smiling or raising eyebrows, our muscles are contracting, deepening wrinkles and making them permanent.
The injections of precise doses of Botox facilitate the relaxation of targeted muscles, leading to a smoother and rejuvenated appearance, or in other words, a more youthful look. And as we mentioned before, this is why anti-wrinkle injections are a great preventative measure to the signs of ageing.
As we mentioned above, wrinkles are caused by facial muscle movement. These are commonly referred to as “expression lines” or “dynamic wrinkles”.
Expression lines are caused by our facial expressions. Years and years of smiling, frowning, laughing and squinting creates these lines, and ageing helps to turn these into wrinkles. And you guessed it, that means there are a few anti-wrinkle injection areas that can be treated.
Anti-wrinkle injection areas include:
As well as using Botox for the above cosmetic reasons, Rejuvenation Rooms employ this treatment to help with concerns including:
And that’s not all! There are even more advanced medical uses for Botox out there.
Depending on what you are being treated for with Botulinum Toxin, your injection points will be decided and marked according to the most active muscles for that treatment area.
Before you undergo Botox treatment, we will invite you for a consultation to see if this treatment is right for you, based on your medical history and what you want to achieve with this treatment. If your Advanced Nurse Prescriber believes you will benefit from treatment and it is suitable, you will be prescribed Botox and you can get started.
At Rejuvenations Rooms, to show the legitimacy of the products we use, your anti-wrinkle injections will be made up in front of you — the fine powder is mixed with a saline solution to allow it to be injected.
This is a non-surgical wrinkle solution, meaning it’s a completely non-invasive treatment. And although it has ‘injection’ in the name, you likely won’t feel any stinging sensation. In fact, some of our clients barely feel it. And those who do, have likened it to the same feeling of a hair being pulled out. However, the bacteriostatic saline we use at our clinic provides a much more comfortable experience with less chance of stinging.
Anti-wrinkle injections at our aesthetic clinic in Kings Lynn are always completed using The Invisible Needle – the world’s finest needle. This ensures client comfort while the purified protein is injected into the targeted muscle.
How do you know which dosage of Botox you need? Don’t worry, a great practitioner will know what dosage you need based on everything learned and discussed at your consultation; everyone’s dosage is unique.
What’s interesting to know is that, for men, the dosage is usually slightly higher, due to stronger muscles and the injection points may be slightly different also. Whatever the dosage or injection points, treatment is quick and virtually pain-free.
Botox Treatment Results
After your treatment, you can expect quick recovery and minimal bruising. At our clinic, this is down to the use of The Invisible Needle, trademarked botox produced by Allergan and sourced from Allergan’s preferred pharmacy (Healthxchange), and the skill of our incredible nurse injector, Tracey.
After treatment, it’s best to avoid these things:
As for your results, you will start to notice these within two weeks, taking effect from four hours to fourteen days. At this point, if you’re having your anti-wrinkle injectable treatment at our Kings Lynn clinic, we will schedule a two-week review appointment. If necessary, adjustment doses will be offered. Then you can expect your smooth, glowing skin to last anywhere from eight weeks to eight months.
It’s important to know that with Botox, there is no antidote. Once injected, there is no way it can be removed. Alternatively, you must wait until it has been metabolised by the body. This is another reason why you should always use a reliable and qualified practitioner who will make sure anti-wrinkle injections are right for you.
Possible side effects include:
As we have mentioned, Botulinum Toxin can be used as a cosmetic and medical solution to several concerns. To use Botox for a cosmetic or medical reason, you must be aged 18 or over.
Although this treatment can be used to help those as young as 18 years old, it is very rare for someone this young to undergo this treatment. The most common age range for this treatment is 30-60 years old, when fine lines and wrinkles start to become more prominent. However, we have treated both older and younger ages with Botox, if needed.
Remember, you don’t need to wait for lines to form to seek anti-wrinkle injections. In fact, this is an excellent way of preventing lines from forming in the first place, hence the reason the treatment age range is so broad.
At our aesthetic clinic in Kings Lynn, anti-wrinkle injections start from £185. The cost of treatment can vary depending on the area being treated.
Our secret weapon, if you like, for providing the best results via anti-wrinkle injections is our Medical Director, Tracey. She’s also our Nurse Injector and is responsible for all of the injectable treatments at Rejuvenation Rooms.
Tracey has been trained to use techniques that minimise any discomfort for clients, and her treatments are never rushed.
